Pic shows: Long Long in hospital after surgery.nnDoctors have surgically removed a small elastic band that had grown into the flesh of a young boy over the course of several years.nnThe child had worn the band around his left wrist in order to ward off misfortune, reports said, but he quickly outgrew it and it disappeared under his skin.nnLong Long, the four-year-old boy from Ziyang City in south-west China¿s Sichuan Province, was first taken to doctors in December last year after complaining of wrist pain.nnHis dad, surnamed He, said the boy had been given a good luck charm in the form of a series of bracelets, which he had worn since the age of one.nnThe charms, which are usually red string or red elastic bands to bring good luck, were only removed after Long Long said they hurt his arm.nnBut doctors during his initial check believed his discomfort may have only been caused by poor blood circulation due to the tight bracelets, and Long Long was discharged.nnA few months later, however, Long Long¿s arm began to show swelling in the shape of a red band which went all the way around his wrist. It was also reportedly infected and was oozing pus.nnDoctor Fu Song at the Chengdu Women and Children¿s Central Hospital, located in Sichuan¿s provincial capital Chengdu, scanned Long Long¿s arm but could not see the immediate cause of the boy¿s conditions.nnFu believed the symptoms were an infection caused by the bracelets, which had most probably been worn for too long, and he decided to operate on Long Long¿s arm.nnBut Fu and other medics were shocked when they cut open the boy¿s arm and found the red elastic band, about 2 centimetres (0.8 inches) in diameter, beneath his skin.nnFu said: "The elastic band had grown into the boy¿s flesh and was close to the bone.nn"We actually see several cases like this each year, but none as serious as Long Long¿s."nnThe elastic band, which had already grown into his skin by the time the he stopped wearing the other bracelets, was taken out and Long Long is now recovering in hospital.nn(ends)n

Το τετράχρονο παιδί, με το όνομα Longlong, παραλίγο να χάσει το χέρι του, αφού λίγο έλειψε οι γιατροί να προχωρήσουν σε ακρωτηριασμό. Οι γιατροί αναφέρουν ότι το ξένο σώμα επηρέαζε την ανάπτυξη του οστού και περιόριζε τις κινήσεις του χεριού του.
Σύμφωνα με την αναφορά, ο τετράχρονος είχε φορέσει ένα ασημένιο βραχιόλι δώρο της μητέρας του, όταν ήταν μόλις ενός έτους. Ήθελε να συμβολίζει τη προστασία.
